Tava Yoga, located in Glen Huntly, is a haven for those seeking a balanced mind and body through the practise of Hatha yoga. Led by Lauren Stern, a passionate yoga teacher and therapist, Tava Yoga aims to provide a nurturing and welcoming environment for its students.
Each class at Tava Yoga begins with approximately 10 minutes of breathing exercises, known as Pranayama. These exercises help students to be present in the moment and prepare their bodies for the yoga poses. By introducing extra oxygen into the lungs, the breath acts as an anchor between the mind and the body, bringing students back into the present moment.
Following the breathing exercises, students are guided through various yoga poses, known as Asanas. The class is structured to work the entire body, as yoga is a balance of both physical and mental wellbeing. Asanas tone the whole body, strengthen bones and muscles, improve posture, enhance breathing, and increase energy. The physical benefits of these poses have a calming and strengthening impact on the mind.
Every class at Tava Yoga concludes with approximately 7 minutes of relaxation and meditation, known as Svasana. This final relaxation helps students incorporate their yoga practise into their daily lives. It removes fatigue and soothes the mind, allowing the body and mind to settle into complete stillness. This experience of inner silence is essential for inner growth and self-awareness.
Tava Yoga was founded by Lauren Stern, a dedicated yoga teacher and therapist. Her own yoga journey began in 2007, and she soon experienced the profound benefits of a regular yoga practise. In 2016, Lauren completed her Yoga Teacher Training in the traditional Hatha Yoga style. She is also a Registered Level 1 Teacher with Yoga Australia and a qualified Yoga Therapist.
With Tava Yoga, Lauren aims to provide a space where students feel welcome and supported on their individual learning journeys.
Lauren's teaching style is warm, open, and nurturing. She teaches with empathy, respect, and acceptance, creating a safe space for students to explore their practise. Lauren's classes are designed to cultivate balance in all aspects of life, helping students find quietude within their minds and souls. She welcomes students with open arms and guides them toward a calmer mind, balanced emotions, and a stronger, more flexible body.
At Tava Yoga, Hatha yoga is the foundation of the practise. Hatha yoga aims to balance and harmonise the body, mind, and emotions. Through a regular practise, students develop awareness between the emotional, mental, and physical levels of the body, restoring balance in both mind and body. One of the main benefits of Hatha yoga is the practise of breathing, which improves oxygenation of the body and reduces stress levels.
