Formation of the first British Taekwon-Do Association in 1967. Taran Tek TKD is proud to be a part of this rich history and heritage of Taekwon-Do.
At Taran Tek TKD, they strive to develop students with an upright mind and a strong body, instilling in them the self-confidence to stand on the side of justice at all times. The club was formed in 2007 by students of the esteemed Billy Thomson's Truro Taekwon-Do club in Cornwall. With three clubs located in Truro, St Newlyn East, and Trispen, Taran Tek TKD has become a well-established presence in the local martial arts community.
The instructors at Taran Tek TKD are highly experienced, with a large compliment of Black Belts, including 8 UKGT registered instructors ranging from 1st to 5th Dan. With an up-to-date enhanced DBS check available upon request, students can be assured of the instructors' qualifications and commitment to their safety.
Taran Tek TKD practises ITF Taekwon-Do, which is the International Taekwon-Do Federation style, and includes additional elements such as groundwork, self-defence, and all-round fitness. The club has had an excellent track record in competition, both locally and nationally, and is a proud member of the UKGT, run by Senior Master Sahota, an 8th-degree black belt.
The club welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels to join their family-oriented community. Taekwon-Do is a fantastic learning activity for children, with lessons tailored to each child's age and skill level. Students start by practising basic patterns, kicks, blocks, strikes, and hand techniques. These fundamental skills develop physical coordination, flexibility, balance, and mental acumen.
Taekwon-Do not only improves athletic abilities but also enhances self-awareness and capabilities in self-defence.
The Taran Tek TKD website, designed by ShootintheFoot, provides a comprehensive resource for club members and those interested in joining. It includes sections on the main homepage, news and events, an introduction to Taekwon-Do, the club's humble beginnings, information about Taekwon-Do for children under 7, finding a club near you, a club calendar, a photo gallery, details about belt promotions, black belt curriculum, useful links, club apparel, sparring gear, downloads, training guides, instructor resources, and more.
Taekwon-Do itself is a modern version of a martial art that originated in Korea. It is characterised by fast, high, jumping, spinning kicks and swift footwork. Taekwon-Do is a well-rounded programme that includes physical exercise, artistic expression, and self-defence training. It is taught in dojangs (Taekwon-Do halls) by certified and experienced instructors.
The objectives of Taekwon-Do include learning self-defence techniques, achieving physical fitness through dedicated participation, improving mental discipline and emotional maturity, developing a sense of responsibility for oneself and others, and cultivating an appreciation for Taekwon-Do as both a sport and an art form. Taekwon-Do's founder, Major General Choi Hong Hi, developed the art after extensive research and development in 1955.
Rhee Ki Ha, widely recognised as the 'Father of British Taekwon-Do,' introduced this martial art to the United Kingdom in the 1960s and formed the first British Taekwon-Do Association in 1967. Taran Tek TKD takes pride in being a part of this legacy and aims to continue spreading the art of Taekwon-Do in Truro and beyond.
For those interested in joining a martial arts school that focuses on developing self-confidence, physical fitness, and a sense of justice, Taran Tek TKD is the perfect choice. Contact them via email at enquiries@tarantek. Co. uk to start your Taekwon-Do journey today.
