James welcomes everyone to the Tamar River Sailing Club. Located on the East bank of the Tamar River, just South of the Tamar Bridge in Plymouth, it’s a hub for yacht, dinghy, and cadet sailors.
Yacht races are on Monday evenings, dinghy races on Wednesday evenings, and the cadet section sails on Friday evenings, often using club-provided dinghies. Tamar River Sailing Club is an RYA training centre and runs programs for sailors of all skill levels.
They host separate yacht and dinghy regattas throughout the year, along with exciting cruises. They've also hosted events like the Jester Challenge and the regional heat of the Honda Rib championship. Besides sailing, there are regular social events, like quiz nights, for members to connect.
The club has been around since 1932 when it was known as the Royal Albert Bridge Sailing Club. The current club building was opened by the Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor J Richards on 20 May 1986. Known for its friendly atmosphere, the club has just over 270 members.
There are 60 trot moorings available and space for sailing dinghies, with racks for tenders and limited outboard motor storage. Although trot moorings are often full, there are occasional vacancies. If interested, just ask.
Members come not only from the local area but as far away as Sheffield. Despite the distance, these members actively contribute to club events and seasonal launching and retrieving of yachts. The club is easily accessible, just minutes from the A38.
The club’s facilities can also be hired for events, offering full bar and catering services. It’s a great venue for parties, wakes, weddings, or meetings.
James invites everyone to visit Tamar River Sailing Club. The club is open on Wednesday and Friday evenings, Sunday afternoons, and Monday evenings during the sailing season. Keep up with the latest news and events through their blog and find useful resources in the downloads section.
