Welcome to Takemusu Aikido Kai, a renowned Aikido school located in Norwich, New Zealand. We specialise in teaching the Japanese martial art of takemusu aikido, which focuses on self-defence without aggression.
Aikido is largely based on Daito-ryu ju-jitsu, a martial art known for its potentially damaging and lethal techniques. However, our approach in aikido is not to harm, but to protect. Our training requires self-discipline and a shift in mindset towards physical threats.
Founded by Morihei Ueshiba in the mid-20th century, aikido was considered by leading martial artists as the pre-eminent martial art in Japan during Ueshiba's lifetime. Despite Ueshiba's passing in 1969, his teachings and legacy live on through takemusu aikido.
At Takemusu Aikido Kai, we focus on the highest level of aikido taught by Ueshiba himself: takemusu aikido. This style emphasises the spontaneous development of responses to aggression. Achieving mastery in takemusu aikido requires regular training to re-educate the body's natural response to threats.
Our experienced and dedicated teachers are passionate about sharing their knowledge and guiding students on their aikido journey. They provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals of all ages and backgrounds can learn and grow.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, our classes cater to students of all levels. We believe that aikido has the power to change lives by transforming reactions to conflict and aggression.
If you are ready to embark on a transformative journey, we invite you to join us at Takemusu Aikido Kai Norwich. Start your training today and discover the power of aikido.
