Takapuna Rugby Football Club, located in Taharoto Rd, Takapuna, Auckland, is a renowned rugby club with a rich history and a strong presence within the rugby community. Founded in 1934, the club initially made a name for itself by winning the prestigious Gallaher Shield in 1940. In the early 70s, the club made a bold decision to relocate to Onewa Domain, where it is currently situated.

The club's facilities at Onewa Domain, which opened in 1973, are regarded as some of the best in the country. The club boasts top-notch playing surfaces, with fields 1/2 and 3 maintained to a high standard. The club has achieved remarkable success in the North Harbour Union, becoming the most successful premier club in the region. Since 1994, Takapuna has won thirteen North Harbour leading Championships, solidifying its status as a force to be reckoned with. In addition, the club emerged victorious in the Inaugural Sky City Blues Franchise competition in 2001, competing against clubs from Auckland, North Harbour, and Northland Rugby Unions.

The tops' success extends to a remarkable string of championship wins. Notably, Takapuna won seven successive North Harbour Championships from 2000 to 2006 and secured the topship ten times overall. The club has also achieved success in other formats of the game, such as winning the North Harbour 7's Competition in 2003.

The club places a strong emphasis on player development and support, aiming to provide the right environment and resources for players to progress through the grades. This focus has resulted in championship victories for various age groups, including the premier One's, Under 21's, and Under 85's.

In recent years, Takapuna RFC has continued to build on its success, with the leading One's and Under 85 kg teams winning Championship titles in 2022. In 2023, all four of the club's senior teams reached their respective finals, with the Under 85's securing back-to-back championships and reaching the final of the NZ National 85s Cup, an impressive feat considering the 52 teams that entered the competition.
