SwimZone - Stokes Valley is a renowned swim club located in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, with over 40 years of experience in delivering swimming lessons and stroke development in the Hutt Valley. Additionally, the club also services the Upper Hutt areas. SwimZone offers a comprehensive programme for swimmers of all levels, starting from the learn-to-swim stage all the way up to competitive and national levels.
A key aspect of SwimZone's philosophy is to prioritise water confidence and safety. The club aims to equip young swimmers with the necessary skills in all four swimming strokes, along with a focus on fitness and enjoyment. Aquakids lessons at SwimZone are available at two locations – Stokes Valley Pool and Huia Swimming Pool in Lower Hutt. The club encourages interested individuals to contact them for a free assessment to determine the appropriate swimming class for their child.
The SwimZone team consists of dedicated coaches who are experienced and passionate about working with children. They create a safe, fun, and challenging environment where each swimmer can develop to their fullest potential. John Ross, co-owner of SwimZone, is an accredited member of the New Zealand Swim Coaches and Teachers Association (NZSCTA) and holds a NZ Level 2 Coaching Licence. Originally from Invercargill, John arrived in Wellington to work under Master Coach Tony Keenan. His intention to stay for a year evolved into a lifelong career in coaching. John's expertise spans developmental swimming, competition swimming, coaching triathletes, open water swimmers, and personal one-on-one training.
Currently, John oversees the junior squad's development at Huia and Stokes Valley pools. He is deeply committed to his coaching role and strives to develop swimmers from SwimZone Racing while providing an innovative and competent service to the community.
