SwimZone - McKenzie

SwimZone - McKenzie is a well-established swim club located in Lower Hutt, New Zealand, with over 35 years of experience in providing swimming lessons and stroke development in the Hutt Valley. They also serve the Upper Hutt areas. The club offers classes for swimmers of all levels, starting from learn-to-swim up to competitive and national levels.

The main focus of SwimZone - McKenzie is to provide high-quality swimming classes for the development of young swimmers. The club places a strong emphasis on water confidence and safety, while also teaching all four swimming strokes and promoting fitness and fun. They believe that swimming is a crucial life skill that every child in New Zealand should learn and continue to develop throughout their childhood years.

SwimZone - McKenzie works in collaboration with Swimzone Racing Swim Club (SZR) to provide activities and opportunities for younger swimmers. This partnership allows swimmers to further their skills, as they have the chance to participate in competitive swimming through SZR.

The coaching team at SwimZone - McKenzie is highly dedicated to creating a fun, safe, and challenging environment for every swimmer to develop to their maximum potential. With a focus on correct technique and fitness development, the coaches follow a proven pathway to ensure swimmers progress effectively through the swimming classes. They are motivated by their love for working with children, their passion for team environments, and their understanding of the importance of nurturing each individual's capabilities. The coaches strive to provide exceptional swimming lessons for every SwimZone family and go the extra mile to ensure a positive experience for all.

Co-owner and head coach, John Ross, a New Zealand Swim Coaches and Teachers Association (NZSCTA) accredited coach with a NZ Level 2 Coaching Licence, leads the coaching team at SwimZone - McKenzie. Originally from Invercargill, John has extensive experience in developmental and competition swimming. He has also trained triathletes and open water swimmers, and provides personal one-on-one training. With his expertise and commitment, John oversees the junior squad developments at Huia and Stokes Valley pools, ensuring the continual growth and success of swimmers from SwimZone Racing and the wider community.

SwimZone - McKenzie's Aquakids lessons are available at two locations: Stokes Valley Pool, located at the corner of Bowers Street and George Street in Stokes Valley, and Huia Swimming Pool on Huia Street in Lower Hutt. The club encourages interested individuals to contact them for a free assessment to determine the appropriate swimming class for their child.
