At Sustainable Jiu Jitsu, students have the option of one-on-one coaching, small group classes, seminars, and workshops. The studio is dedicated to providing a personalised and supportive environment for each individual, allowing them to grow and develop their skills at their own pace.
The philosophy of Sustainable Jiu Jitsu is to honour the art of Jiu Jitsu and its ability to empower individuals. Through the practise of Jiu Jitsu, students can become better decision-makers, gain confidence, and develop competence in various aspects of their lives. The studio emphasises the importance of managing emotions and encourages students to embrace the mind-body connexion to optimise their overall well-being.
Self-protection is also a significant focus at Sustainable Jiu Jitsu. The school acknowledges the importance of being able to protect oneself in all aspects of combat, including standing, clinching, and ground fighting. Additionally, Sustainable Jiu Jitsu offers training in dealing with weapons, ensuring that students are prepared to face any situation that may arise.
The goal of Sustainable Jiu Jitsu is to provide efficient, effective, and safe training. The studio believes that training live and in context, with intelligence, is crucial for long-term growth and self-protection. The training environment at Sustainable Jiu Jitsu is designed to help individuals become the most powerful versions of themselves, both physically and mentally.
The founder and head coach of Sustainable Jiu Jitsu, Professor James Woodfield-Jones, has over 41 years of experience in martial arts and self-protection. He is a 3rd Degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt under Master Joe Moreira and holds instructor certifications in all programmes offered by Sustainable Jiu Jitsu. Professor James Woodfield-Jones is dedicated to coaching and mentoring individuals, helping them grow and become powerful human beings both on and off the mats.
Sustainable Jiu Jitsu offers programmes in both Gi (traditional uniform) and No Gi (without the uniform), focusing on principles, concepts, and technique rather than relying solely on the uniform. The school emphasises the importance of controlling an opponent by understanding how to utilise their two arms, two legs, and head.
In addition to Jiu Jitsu, Sustainable Jiu Jitsu also provides training in striking. Starting from a standing position, students learn how to handle aggression and various striking techniques. Defence is prioritised over offence, as Sustainable Jiu Jitsu believes that understanding defence is crucial for effective self-protection both physically and emotionally.
For those interested in knife defence, Sustainable Jiu Jitsu offers an official knife defence programme. This programme can be taken as a standalone programme or as part of the overall self-protection training.
Sustainable Jiu Jitsu has gained a reputation for its exceptional coaching and personalised approach. Students from all over Australia have travelled to train with Professor James Woodfield-Jones, often commending not only the high-quality techniques tailored to individual needs but also the welcoming and inspiring atmosphere that encourages personal growth and a better way of living.
