Sensei David and Joanne, the passionate duo who have called Hurstpierpoint home for over 30 years, are here to welcome you into their martial arts family. Whether you're a 4-year-old beginner or someone with some martial arts savvy, their classes are tailored for all fitness levels.
At Sussex Karate, you'll learn traditional karate techniques and forms, gaining all the skills needed for your next grading. But that's not all! Fancy learning to wield nunchaku or traditional Okinawan weapons? Their NANA system can take you from beginner to Dan Grade, starting with foam padded weapons and progressing to handcrafted wooden nunchaku.
For those intrigued by staff weapons, their Sussex Kobudo programme can guide you to black belt status in handling the Jo (short staff) and Bo (six-foot staff). Sparring with these weapons, under safe and controlled conditions, is also part of the package.
Sensei David and Joanne believe the Dojo is more than just a place for physical training. It’s a space to develop mental discipline, self-confidence, and respect for others—all while making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. Their family classes provide a unique opportunity for parents and children to train together, strengthening bonds while getting fit.
Both David and Joanne are fully insured, CRB checked, and hold certifications in First Aid and Child Protection. They've successfully created a supportive and welcoming environment, making Sussex Karate a proud member of the IMASA and affiliated with the Burgess Hill dojo, Reiwaryu Ryushinkan Karate School in Brighton, and MSK Martial Arts in Eastbourne.
