We’ve got some exciting news from our mate, Greg, the organiser of the events down at Stratford Speedway.
As you all know, Stratford Speedway, situated at the A & P Showgrounds in Stratford, is where it’s all happening in Taranaki. This track has been the hub of our racing community since back in the 1964/1965 season when we had just 14 stockcars turning up for the first race. Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers, racing here has just kept on growing.
Our Stratford racers have really made us proud over the years, bagging 23 New Zealand championships in top classes like Stockcars, Saloons, and Modifieds. And don’t forget those intense teams racing events where we’ve come out on top! In fact, Stratford Speedway even scooped up the Speedway of the Year award in 1999/2000.
Let’s talk about the track itself. It’s 380 metres long, with 10 metres on the straights and 13 metres in the corners. The racing surface is a solid mix of papa, lime chip, and sawdust. The action runs from October to March or April, with about 20 nights of racing each season.
We’ve got some big nights lined up on our racing calendar. There’s the Fireworks night in early November, the Boxing Day Demolition Derby, and national Championship meets, just to name a few. These events bring in loads of competitors and spectators, creating an electric atmosphere.
Mark your calendars for January 12th and 13th for the Five Star Liquor New Zealand Stockcar Championship and January 26th and 27th for the Mowtika Lawns and Maintenance New Zealand Streetstock Grand Prix. These are set to be massive highlights of our 2023/24 season.
