The St George Alpine Club, located in Hotham Heights, is a ski club that offers an unforgettable alpine experience for members and visitors alike. The club boasts two lodges, namely the Jindabyne Lodge and the Mt Hotham Lodge, both of which are equipped with top-notch facilities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
The Jindabyne Lodge is a full brick and concrete constructed two-level building with stunning views of the main range and off-street parking. On the lower level, guests can find an activity room, laundry with washing machine, toilet, drying room, ski/snowboard room, storeroom, STD phone alcove, bedroom, family room, and a bunkroom (note: the bunkroom is not segregated). The upper level houses dual kitchens, communal dining and lounge areas, and six bedrooms. As per club policy, there is no TV, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the serene mountain environment.
The lodge is fully carpeted throughout, with electric heaters in the sleeping areas and reverse cycle air conditioning in the dining/lounge and activity areas. Each bunkroom, family room, and bedroom has its own ensuite with a shower, washbasin, toilet, and heater.
From the Jindabyne Lodge, guests can easily access the nearby ski resorts such as Thredbo and Perisher/Blue Cow car parks within a 30-minute drive or the Ski Tube train terminal within 20 minutes. Chains are necessary during winter. In addition to world-class skiing and snowboarding, Jindabyne offers a wide range of dining options, clubs, bars, and other fun activities. During the summer months, guests can enjoy bushwalking, trout fishing, windsurfing, water-skiing, horse riding, tennis, and squash.
The Mt Hotham Lodge provides guests with an equally exceptional experience. This split-level lodge is located on the top floor of a 3-4 level full brick and concrete building, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the alpine wilderness and Mt Hotham. On the lower level, guests can find the kitchen, dining, and lounge areas, drying room, and three bedrooms. The upper level houses the remaining three bedrooms and the laundry facilities.
Similar to the Jindabyne Lodge, the Mt Hotham Lodge is fully carpeted throughout, with thermostatically controlled central warm water heaters in the common areas and each bedroom. Each bedroom also has its own ensuite with a shower, washbasin, toilet, and heater.
While the lodge is a haven for winter enthusiasts looking for ski and snowboard adventures, there is also plenty to do during the summer months. Guests can explore the historic gold towns of Beechworth and Yackandandah, visit the charming town of Bright, or embark on bushwalks along marked trails. Additionally, northeastern Victoria is home to renowned wineries, making it the perfect destination for wine enthusiasts.
To reach the Mt Hotham Lodge, guests must be prepared for alpine winter conditions as the lodge is located in the snow. It is recommended to ensure that vehicles are properly equipped, including a well-maintained battery, correct anti-freeze levels, and the appropriate type of chains. For safety reasons, it is advisable to make the drive from Harrietville to Mt Hotham during daylight hours, as snowy conditions can greatly affect visibility.
Whether guests choose to stay at the Jindabyne Lodge or the Mt Hotham Lodge, the St George Alpine Club guarantees a memorable and enjoyable alpine experience. Members and non-members alike can book their stay through the club's website or contact the Booking Officer for assistance.
