Spirit Taekwon-Do, located in Wellington, New Zealand, is a gym that offers Taekwon-Do classes for self-defence, fitness, and fun! With a strong emphasis on community, Spirit Taekwon-Do welcomes individuals of all ages and skill levels to join their training sessions.
Spirit Taekwon-Do believes in the holistic benefits of Taekwon-Do, teaching not only self-defence techniques but also promoting values such as self-respect, respect for others, humility, and belief in one's ability to achieve anything they desire. The gym provides a supportive and welcoming environment for individuals to grow both physically and mentally.
To become a member of Spirit Taekwon-Do, there is a joining fee of $95, which grants individuals membership to the gym and the International Taekwon-Do Federation of New Zealand (ITFNZ). The joining fee also includes the first month of training fees and a club badge. Monthly fees are $45, payable on the 25th of each month through automatic payment, and cover training for 12 months of the year. Families who join, train, or grade together can take advantage of family discounts, with two family members paying a combined fee of $80, and each additional family member adding $20 to the total fee.
Grading fees amount to $50 per grading, and the ITFNZ holds gradings three times a year, providing individuals with the opportunity to progress through the ranks as they gain proficiency in Taekwon-Do. While not necessary immediately, individuals will eventually need to purchase a dobok/uniform, costing between $60 and $90, prior to grading to their next belt. For those in need, a recommended local source for purchasing uniforms is the Fuji-Mae store.
Additionally, Spirit Taekwon-Do organises various optional events throughout the year, including tournaments, seminars, camps, and more, which may incur extra costs.
The gym offers multiple class locations and times, catering to the diverse needs and schedules of its members. In Newlands, classes are held on Wednesdays and Fridays, divided into White, Yellow, and Green Belt groups for ages 7-10 from 6:00pm-7:00pm, and for all others from 7:00pm-8:30pm at the Newlands Centennial Hall. In Northland and Kelburn, classes take place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at various times and locations, accommodating senior belts, junior belts, and all age groups above 7 years old.
Testimonials from members highlight the sense of community, camaraderie, and fun that Spirit Taekwon-Do offers. Participants love the opportunity to get fit, spend time with friends and loved ones, and be part of a welcoming community that supports and challenges them to grow personally and physically.

Taekwon-Do, as taught by Spirit Taekwon-Do, is a modern martial art that traces its roots to ancient Korean martial arts and Japanese Karate, combining the best techniques from various martial arts. General Choi Hong-Hi, the founder of Taekwon-Do, refined these techniques and developed a martial art that incorporates scientific formulae and military tactics. General Choi's vision led to the introduction and spread of Taekwon-Do worldwide.
Spirit Taekwon-Do strives to embody General Choi's vision, offering an all-encompassing approach to Taekwon-Do that focuses on self-defence, fitness, personal growth, and a sense of community. Join Spirit Taekwon-Do today and embark on a journey of self-discovery, physical fitness, and personal empowerment.
