South Lakeland Yoga, located in Carnforth, is a welcoming studio offering a variety of yoga lessons and courses. The studio is operated by two experienced and certified yoga teachers, Dee Swift and John Bolwell.
The classes at South Lakeland Yoga are suitable for both beginners and those with more experience in yoga. The teachers tailor each class to meet the needs and demands of the group, providing alternatives for different abilities. The classes incorporate flowing movements and held postures to develop strength, flexibility, mindfulness, and a harmonious connexion between body, mind, and spirit.
Dee and John both trained in the classical Sivananda Method of Yoga, but they also draw inspiration from other yoga traditions such as Iyengar, Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, Tai Chi, and Zen. They are fully insured and have extensive experience in teaching yoga.
South Lakeland Yoga also offers workshops and special events. For example, they host a New Year Yoga Workshop called “The Breathing Body” which focuses on breath awareness. Participants are encouraged to integrate breathing exercises (pranayama) with their practise to invigorate, restore, and relax. All levels of experience are welcome to join this workshop.
In addition to in-person classes and workshops, South Lakeland Yoga also offers Zoom classes with John. The “Yoga from around the world” class runs on Wednesdays from 10am to 11am. Participants can join from the comfort of their own homes and work at their own level in a friendly online group.
For those interested in private lessons, South Lakeland Yoga has a lovely studio at the School House that can accommodate small groups or individuals. This space is ideal for individuals who require more individual attention or have specific postural problems or needs.
