Welcome to Somerset Youth and Community Sailing Association (SYCSA), a volunteer-led charity located near Bridgwater in Somerset. SYCSA is a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) teaching establishment with both Championship and Sailability Foundation status. As a registered charity, SYCSA is dedicated to providing sailing education and recreation opportunities for adults and children in Somerset and beyond.
At SYCSA, our team of dedicated volunteer instructors offer a range of courses and sessions for individuals of all ages and abilities. Whether you're a youngster looking for a fun Saturday morning activity or an adult wanting to learn the basics of sailing, we have something for everyone. We teach according to the RYA National Sailing schemes for both adults and youths, ensuring that our participants receive quality instruction and guidance.
One of our main focuses is youth development and recreation. We believe that sailing can not only teach valuable skills but also help individuals realise their potential and lead healthy and fulfilling lives. Our courses are designed to promote personal growth, teamwork, and a love for the outdoors. We are proud to offer opportunities for individuals with disabilities through our Sailability programme, allowing everyone to experience the joys of dinghy sailing.
As a non-profit organisation, SYCSA aims to make sailing accessible to as many people as possible. We have recently received funding to subsidise fees, making sailing with us more affordable than ever before. We also strive to constantly improve our facilities and equipment. Furthermore, we have recently acquired three new Oppie type boats and will soon have a new RIB (rigid inflatable boat) to enhance our fleet.
Located at Durleigh Reservoir, our sailing venue offers a beautiful and safe environment for our activities. The reservoir and clubhouse are now open as normal, but we encourage participants to follow any necessary COVID-19 protocols, such as arriving sailing-ready or changing in their cars. Additionally, when attending any SYCSA event, all participants are required to book upon arrival to ensure everyone's safety and well-being.
If you're interested in joining SYCSA or learning more about our courses and sessions, please visit our website and check out our calendar for upcoming dates. We also encourage you to follow our Facebook page for the latest updates and photos. Our friendly and knowledgeable team is ready to welcome you to the world of sailing and help you embark on a new adventure on the water. Get in touch with us today and let's set sail together at Somerset Youth and Community Sailing Association.
