The Dorset Division 3 North. In the 1980s, SMFC continued to experience success, with promotions to Division 2 in 1981 and Division 1 in 1983.
In recent years, the club has focused on building a strong youth section, which has led to the formation of Sturminster Marshall Youth Football Club in 1989. The club now provides 9 teams in the Dorset Divisional and Mini Soccer Leagues, ranging from under 8's to under 18's. Additionally, the club offers a Mini Kickers Football School for under 6's and under 7's, providing coaching and organised fixtures.
The club has approximately 140 young players, with 98% of them coming from Sturminster Marshall and its surrounding parishes. It also offers opportunities for volunteers to coach, manage, and referee teams at all age levels, with around 30 adults actively involved in the club. The coaches hold various qualifications, ensuring a high standard of coaching and player development.
Furthermore, the club maintains close links with local schools, offering coaching sessions and utilising their facilities. It also has a direct link with Sturminster Marshall Football Club, allowing players to continue participating with the club after graduating from the youth section.
Sturminster Marshall Football Club, founded on 6th August 1921, has a rich history and has experienced various levels of success over the years. The club was re-formed on 26th May 1959 and quickly climbed the ranks, reaching the Dorset Combination by 1965. Despite some ups and downs, the club has remained competitive and has attained multiple promotions and cup victories.
The aim of Sturminster Marshall Football Club is to continue developing as a community-focused club, providing structured and organised football coaching for all members and assisting their progression into the adult section. With a dedicated coaching staff, strong ties to the local community, and a rich history, SMFC and SMYFC are truly committed to promoting football and player development in Wimborne and East Dorset.
