Occasionally, the National Aquatic Centre may have limited public hours or be closed due to competitions and events. These closures and events are necessary to accommodate national swimming, surf lifesaving, and water polo championships. However, the facility aims to keep disruption to a minimum during these times.
In addition to its aquatic amenities, the National Aquatic Centre also offers community group fitness classes, adult swim squads, and deep water running sessions. The fitness options are designed to cater to a wide range of fitness levels and interests.

As a charitable trust, the National Aquatic Centre exists to make a difference in the community. It works closely with AUT University to enable world-leading research in sport and human performance.
