Simonside Outdoor Adventure is an established rock climbing gym and outdoor activity organiser located in South Shields, Tyne & Wear. As the adventurous activity provider for South Tyneside Council, they have been delivering a wide range of activities for over 40 years, catering to both young and old alike. Their passion lies in inspiring, educating, and creating lasting memories for their participants.

Offering a variety of land and water-based activities, Simonside Outdoor Adventure operates from three different centres, ensuring there is something for everyone. They pride themselves on maintaining high standards of instruction, well-maintained clothing, top-notch equipment, and facilities that are accessible for all. Their sister centre, Thurston OEC, is located on the shores of Coniston Water in the Lake District National Park.

Simonside Outdoor Adventure is not just committed to providing thrilling experiences, but they also prioritise environmental sustainability. By harnessing the power of the sun, all three of their centres have reduced carbon footprints through the use of PV Solar Cells, which provide the majority of their energy consumption. Additionally, they have planted a wide range of broadleaf trees at their Kielder site to increase biodiversity and attract a greater range of insect, mammal, and bird life.

When it comes to health and safety, Simonside Outdoor Adventure leaves no stone unturned. All activities offered include instruction from qualified staff members, appropriate equipment, transportation, full risk assessments, and access to facilities. The highly experienced and motivated staff hold National Governing Body Instructor awards relevant to the activities being undertaken. They also hold first aid certificates and are enhanced DBS checked.

In line with their commitment to safety, Simonside Outdoor Adventure holds various accreditations, such as an Adventurous Activities Licencing Service licence, Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, and AAIAC Adventuremark. They are also a Royal Yachting Association Recognised Training Centre.

In addition to their dedicated team, Simonside Outdoor Adventure occasionally utilises freelance instructors who possess appropriate qualifications, skills, and experience. These instructors undergo the same safety checks as their full-time employees, ensuring that all participants are in capable hands.

Simonside Outdoor Adventure also adheres to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016/679. They collect participant information through consent and registration forms to better understand and support individual needs. This information is used for pre-participation support and to provide appropriate assistance during activities.
