The Richmond Dojo, located in Richmond, offers classes on Mondays and Thursdays. Junior classes run from 5 pm to 6 pm, while senior classes are scheduled from 6 pm to 8 pm. In addition to regular training, the dojo also holds special training sessions on Saturdays, including squad training. The Coburg Dojo, located in Coburg, offers classes from Monday to Friday.
Junior classes are held from 5 pm to 7 pm, and senior classes are held from 7 pm to 9 pm.
At Shotokan Karate Richmond, the focus is on the development of correct technique, long low stances, strength, posture, and knowledge through constant practise. The club has a high standard of karate, which is evident in the three components of karate training: Kihon (basics), Kata (forms), and Kumite (fighting). Students are taught and encouraged to build and develop their skills through set fighting sequences, improving accuracy, hand-eye coordination, power, and speed. This progression of set fighting leads to free fighting, including self-defence and competition karate.
Conditioning and strength training are integral parts of the training at Shotokan Karate Richmond. They not only support the high standard of karate practised at the school but also help students lead fit and healthy lives with strong minds and bodies.
Sensei Con Sklavounos, a highly experienced instructor, leads the Richmond Dojo. He began his karate training in 1975 and opened the Richmond Dojo at the age of 16. Sensei Con has competed successfully and continues to coach students at State, National, and International levels. His training background includes the Japan Karate Association (JKA), Shotokan Karate Association of Australia (SKAA), Shotokan Karate International (SKI), World Shotokan Karate Federation (WSKF), and World Shotokan Karate-Do Australia (WSKA).
Sensei Con was awarded his Shodan (1st dan black belt) at the age of 15, making him one of the youngest independent instructors in Australia. He has a long and loyal relationship with Chief Instructor Sensei John Haitidis, with over 40 years of passionate practise and coaching in the art of karate.
Shotokan Karate Richmond is not just a business but a passionate and dedicated school with a focus on student development and excellence. The club intentionally keeps student numbers low to provide a more personalised and high-quality training experience. The instructors take great satisfaction and pride in their students' achievements.
