Shoal Bay Sportfishing Tours invites all fishing enthusiasts to join us for an exciting local Fishing event in Howard Springs. Get ready to experience the thrill of reeling in some impressive catches and enjoy the beauty of Darwin's waters.
Despite the water temperature holding up at around 28 degrees Celsius, the barra fish have not disappointed. We have been fortunate to encounter plenty of these beauties, measuring around 70 centimetres, in excellent condition. It's a great opportunity to test your angling skills and maybe even land a new personal best!
But that's not all – after a relatively quiet year for mud crabs, they have finally made a comeback. Prepare yourself for some double-figure catches as we navigate the waters in search of these tasty creatures. Good rains have improved runoff fishing, and with a promising wet season ahead, we expect even better results.
Although the mud crab situation is not as abundant as in Shoal Bay, we are still managing to get a feed most days. The quality of the crabs is impressive, with some huge and full crabs being caught. It's a chance to savor the flavours of the ocean and indulge in some mouthwatering seafood.
While COVID-19 has made this year quieter than usual, our tours have recently resumed, and we have already witnessed some good quality catches. The build-up has produced some excellent fish, although the numbers are slightly down due to previous poor wet seasons. Nevertheless, the signs are encouraging, and we are optimistic about what lies ahead.
Despite challenging conditions with cold water and strong winds, we have finally seen indications of the barra fish playing the game. Bait has been a bit elusive, with lures not proving as effective. However, using small mullet as bait has been a successful strategy. Recent fishing trips have shown the first signs of some solid build-up barra, resulting in impressive catches.
As for the crab situation, this year has been exceptional. We have encountered an abundance of crabs, with plenty available for our catch, although the females are starting to outnumber the males. It's a great chance to observe and learn more about these fascinating creatures while enjoying a fruitful day of fishing.
Things have really picked up in the bay, with both low and high tide fishing proving to be fruitful. Despite the challenge of small bait sizes, we managed to catch five barr up to 80 cm on a recent trip. It's a testament to the skill and dedication of our anglers.
