The Shirley Hawks Rugby League Club in Christchurch is a well-established sports club with a rich history and a strong focus on family and community. From its roots in Shirley, the club has grown to offer teams for players of all ages, ranging from under 5's to masters.

As the 2023 season approaches, the club is accepting registrations from both past and present players, as well as newcomers who are interested in joining our rugby league community. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the sport, the Shirley Hawks Rugby League Club welcomes you to be a part of our team.

One of the club's main goals for the upcoming season is to continue building our junior teams, while also expanding our presence in the girls' and women's divisions. We are excited to see the return of our senior men's team and are determined to provide them with the support and opportunities they need to succeed. Alongside them, we plan to field teams in various age groups, including U13 Boys and U14 & U16 Girls.

Throughout the year, the club organises various events and activities to strengthen the bonds within our whnau (family). For example, we recently held an Inaugural camp where our junior players and their families came together at Woodend Christian Camp to create lasting memories and enhance their sense of belonging to the club.

We are extremely grateful to have the support of Dr Bugs Popcorn as our “Hawk of the Day” sponsor for the 2023 season. Please show them some love for their contribution.

For those interested in joining our juniors, the season typically begins in early May and runs until August. Games are usually scheduled between 9 am and 11:30 am and are primarily held at the Canterbury Park and A&P Show Grounds. Training sessions have been held at our club rooms (33 Briggs Road) on Thursday nights from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. However, please check back later for confirmation of training times for the 2024 season.

Junior subs for the 2023 season were $40 for the first child, $30 for the second, and $20 for any subsequent child. The subs for the upcoming season will be determined and announced in the new year.

We understand that times can be challenging, and if the payment is a burden, we encourage you to contact Andre to discuss possible payment options, plans, and available funding.

In 2023, the Shirley Hawks Rugby League Club celebrated the success of its first-ever U16 Girls team. Seeing the girls develop their skills and confidence on the field was truly inspiring. As a growing club, we have plans to continue building in the youth space by introducing a U13 Boys team, as well as U14 and U16 Girls teams in the 2024 season.
