The history of Iaido traces back to Hayashizaki Jinsuke Minamoto Shigenobu (1546 1621), who lived during a tumultuous period of warfare in Japan. Legend has it that after his father was killed, Hayashizaki dedicated himself to martial arts training to seek revenge. During a visit to the Hayashizaki Meijin shrine, he received divine inspiration for the technique of drawing the sword and cutting the opponent in one fluid motion. He went on to develop his own sword style and attract numerous students.
