Perth CBD) and offers a unique and comprehensive self-defence training experience.
Self Defence Central Dojo (SDCD) is a sports club that specialises in teaching a self-defence system based on traditional Japanese martial arts of Jujutsu. The club is located in a boutique location in Osborne Park, WA and offers classes for both children and adults.
The self-defence system taught at SDCD is adaptable and suitable for people of all fitness levels and sizes, including women and children. The classes focus on practicality and effectiveness, emphasising the use of leverage over strength. This makes the system suitable even for smaller individuals, as it teaches techniques that utilise stances, balance, powerful striking, and the unification of breath, body weight, and hip power.
At SDCD, the club values high-quality instruction and ensures that all instructors have extensive experience, typically ranging from 20-30+ years. The trainers and instructors undergo experience-based gradings to guarantee the quality of self-defence and class instruction. The club also believes in student-driven progress, allowing students to book their own group sessions based on their experience level.
The club offers a low student to instructor ratio, with group personal training sessions designed for optimum group size of 6–12 students at the same level of instruction. This ensures personalised attention and focused training. Additionally, SDCD provides optional grading system components in jujutsu, karate, weapons, and teaching elements, allowing students to specialise in their areas of interest.
SDCD aims to pass on a world-recognised standard and complete system in Japanese jujutsu and self-defence to the next generation of students. The club is also affiliated with clubs in Europe, introducing standardisation across the region. Furthermore, SDCD applies best practise self-defence principles and skills to traditional karate kata and fundamentals, teaching character development along with effective self-defence skills.
The jujutsu classes at SDCD cover a wide range of techniques and skills. Students will learn break falls, disengaging mechanics, blocks, counterstrikes, striking mechanics, body movements, unbalancing principles, hand grips & clothes holds, ground attacks, weapon defences, takedowns, throws, strangles, headlocks, body holds, holds & locks, wall attacks, pressure points, using weapons, and strategies for dealing with multiple attackers.
If you are interested in experiencing what SDCD has to offer, a free trial is available. Simply come along to any of the sessions and speak to one of the friendly staff prior to the class commencing.
