Scorrybreac Boathouse

Paul at Scorrybreac Boathouse runs a dynamic sailing club in Portree on the Isle of Skye. Established in 1998, the club was born from the merger of Portree Sailing Club and Skye Sailing Club from Armadale.

In 2014, Scorrybreac Boathouse was transformed into a modern facility with amenities like electricity, water, a kitchen, classroom, shower, and toilet. These upgrades make it a convenient spot for members to engage in their sailing activities.

Paul organises a variety of activities at the club, catering to both novice and experienced sailors. The fleet of dinghies, introduced in 2016, is available for regular sailing sessions and RYA courses. Open dinghy race events throughout the year offer members a chance to compete and show their skills.

For those after more excitement, windsurfing is on offer, allowing members to sail across Portree Bay. Scorrybreac Boathouse also runs powerboating courses led by qualified RYA instructors, ideal for both leisure and commercial boat users.

Keelboat races and cruises take place throughout the season from various Skye ports, as part of the West Highland Offshore Series. These events provide excellent opportunities for members to socialise and engage in friendly competition.

Paul is keen to share the excitement of sailing with the wider community via the Portree Sailing Experience. It’s open to families, friends, and individuals, giving participants a new perspective of the island from the water.

The club prides itself on its inclusive nature, offering opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds to try sailing, rowing, and powerboating. Newcomers can get personalised coaching sessions or join a club night to experience sailing firsthand.
