SAWMAK Karate Club Windsor is a modern karate club that draws influence from various traditional karate styles while constantly moving forward with new ideas. The club emphasises self-defence and exercise, teaching thoughtful and effective martial arts to promote physical and mental well-being. SAWMAK is a non-full contact style, using light to moderate contact in training depending on the individual's maturity and level of training.
With the aim of building strength, stamina, fitness, self-confidence, and flexibility, every class at SAWMAK focuses on teaching karate skills for sparring and self-defence. The club is registered with NAKMAS, a major UK national martial arts governing body. They offer classes for all ages, including school-aged children, as well as classes specifically for adults and secondary school-aged children.
SAWMAK runs a class on Saturdays at 1 pm at Windsor Leisure Centre in Windsor, and Monday classes at 8 pm at Egham Orbit Leisure Centre in Egham. All instructors at SAWMAK are DBS checked, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students. Parents are also welcome to spectate or train alongside their children, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone.
The club is led by Sensei Paul Crawshaw who has over 20 years of experience in training and teaching karate. He has had training in Shotokan karate, a Wado ryu based system, and more recently Goju karate. Sensei Paul is passionate about sharing the benefits of karate, including discipline, physical fitness, and self-defence. He emphasises proper technique, form, and safety in his classes, encouraging students to push themselves to improve their skills and reach their goals.
SAWMAK's classes teach a modern blend of karate systems, incorporating elements of sports-type karate, traditional karate, and self-defence karate.
Sensei Michael Crawshaw is another lead instructor at SAWMAK, with 20 years of experience in martial arts. He started in Taekwondo and later transitioned to karate. Michael ensures that classes at SAWMAK challenge students from a fitness standpoint while also teaching karate. He is passionate about karate's ability to empower individuals, both physically and mentally, and is dedicated to teaching students at SAWMAK.
Overall, SAWMAK Karate Club Windsor is a place where anyone and everyone can come to exercise, have fun, and learn martial arts. Whether you're looking to improve self-defence skills, increase fitness levels, or simply meet new friends, SAWMAK provides a supportive and inclusive environment for all individuals.
