Sarum Swords is a friendly and competitive fencing club located in Salisbury, New Zealand. Established in 2013, the club's main objective is to introduce young people in Salisbury to the exhilarating sport of fencing. Children aged six years and above are welcomed to join the club and train in a safe and enjoyable environment, where their skills are nurtured.
For younger fencers, Sarum Swords provides structured sessions that include a combination of games, mobility exercises, and blade skills. These sessions are designed to instil good habits and prepare children for future success in fencing. Additionally, the club now welcomes experienced competitive adult fencers, embracing their passion for the sport.
Sarum Swords takes pride in its rapidly growing competitive success, establishing itself as one of the strongest foil clubs in the Southern Region. While catering to fencers of all levels, from complete beginners to elite athletes, the club particularly encourages hard-working and driven individuals who are eager to have fun while pushing themselves to achieve their sporting goals.
Enrolment for the Spring Term 2024 is currently open, and interested individuals can secure their place by contacting Coach John Routledge as soon as possible. The club offers sessions on Thursdays and Fridays, with multiple time slots to accommodate different schedules. The dates for the upcoming term are April 20th, 27th, May 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, June 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, and July 6th, 13th. Prices for the 12-week term are 84 for one session per week and 143 for two sessions per week on Thursday and Friday.
The club conducts its training sessions at Dennis Marsh House (Scout HQ) on Westminster Road, Salisbury, in Wiltshire. On Thursdays, the sessions are held from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, while on Fridays, they take place from 4:30pm to 6:00pm. The venue offers a conducive environment for fencers to practise and hone their skills.
In addition to regular training sessions, Sarum Swords offers individual lessons on Sundays with the coach. These one-to-one lessons are priced at 20 for a 30-minute session and are available from 9am to 12 noon. Interested individuals are advised to contact the coach to check for availability.
