RJD Archers (Winter Venue) is an archery club located in Pontyclun, New Zealand. The club warmly welcomes both children over 8 years old and adults, making it a perfect family-friendly environment. Beginners are particularly encouraged to join, as the club offers the use of club equipment for borrowing. Furthermore, those who wish to continue their archery journey beyond the beginner level are fully supported in purchasing their own equipment, tailored to their specific needs.
At RJD Archers, all coaches are qualified by Archery GB and provide individual guidance to help each member reach their full potential in the sport. Additionally, all coaches have undergone Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks to ensure the safety and well-being of club members. For those who prefer learning in Welsh, a Welsh-speaking coach is also available.
During the summer months from May to mid-September, the club meets on Tuesday and Friday from 18:00 until 20:30 (or until dusk). These gatherings take place at The Old Dog Track, Rhydyfelin AFC Ground, Fairfield Lane, Hawthorn, Pontypridd, CF37 5LN. For enthusiasts who are entirely new to archery, RJD Archers offers beginner's courses on an as-needed basis. These courses typically run four times a year, with two indoor courses between September and April, and two outdoor courses between May and September. The courses span 12 hours over a period of 4 to 6 weeks, with 2 to 3 hours of weekly tuition. All necessary archery equipment for the course is graciously supplied by the club.
The course fee is set at 45 for the entire 12-hour course, which must be paid two weeks prior to the course to secure a place. It is essential to adhere to the dress code during the course for safety purposes. Participants are prohibited from wearing loose clothing or jewellery and are required to tie back long hair. Additionally, the coaches must be informed of any piercings, and open-toe shoes are strictly forbidden.
RJD Archers also hosts various tournaments throughout the year. Tournament fees are to be paid at the time of completing the entry form. Refunds are made under specific circumstances, such as cancellation by the tournament organiser, participant cancellation no later than 1 month before the tournament, or at the discretion of the tournament organiser between 1 month before the tournament and the closing date for entries. For those wishing to pay tournament fees via BACS, it is recommended to contact the tournament organiser to confirm space availability.
Tournament entry forms are available for the RJD Archers Outdoor Championship 2023, RJD Archers Indoor Portsmouth Championship, January 28th 2024, and Glamorgan Archery Association Senior Indoor Championship WA18 on February 18th, 2024.
Furthermore, RJD Archers provides updates on tournament results. Previous tournament results include the RJD Archers Open Indoor Championship on January 19th, 2020, Saturday Western Tournament on July 6th, 2019, and the WA Combined Tournament on March 17th, 2019.
Lastly, RJD Archers shares news and updates on the club's activities. For instance, members have the opportunity to participate in a two-day indoor workshop to learn how to make their own longbows. The staves for the longbows are prepared by Pip Bickerstaffe, who is assisted by Ben Lamb. Participants will receive coaching on drawing the new bows and loosing arrows at targets.
At the end of the workshop, attendees will leave with their very own beautiful longbows.
