Raven Spirit Dance

Raven Spirit Dance, based in Vancouver, is a contemporary dance company that is deeply rooted in Indigenous worldviews and values. The company creates and produces dance that shares stories through Indigenous perspectives and practices, while also providing opportunities for others to do the same.

Raven Spirit Dance's work is guided by seven distinct streams, including creation and research, presenting and curation of Indigenous artists' choreography, touring new work and repertoire locally, nationally, and internationally, providing training in Indigenous dance practices, engaging communities around Indigenous creative work, offering mentorship to Indigenous dance artists, and advocating for the presence and expression of Indigenous performance and worldview in society.

The company's upcoming dance work, “Confluence,” is a somatic tapestry that reflects the resilience of Indigenous women and explores the relationship between land, sky, and water. The piece embodies play, prayer, grief, and gratitude, serving as a testament to the legacy passed down to Indigenous individuals.

Raven Spirit Dance regularly participates in community events to support and engage with other artists and organizations. The company recently participated in the PuSH Industry Series at the Talking Stick Festival, which brought together visionary arts workers to envision possible futures through exchange and reflection.

Additionally, Raven Spirit Dance is involved in the Vines Art Festival, which is currently accepting applications for their 10th festival in August 2024. The festival offers honorariums for selected artists, with applications due in February 2024.
