Rangana & Udumbara Dance Troupe is a renowned dance school, dance company, and performing arts group located in Hallam, Australia. Founded by Rangana Ratnatunga and Udumbara Ratnatunga, the troupe brings forth a rich and diverse cultural experience through their energetic and captivating dance performances.
Rangana Ratnatunga, son of the renowned stage and tele-drama actress Kala Bhooshana Nanda Ratnatunga, began his journey in traditional dancing under his mother's guidance from a young age. He further honed his skills under the tutelage of Guru Nandana Balasooriya. Rangana's talent and dedication led him to his debut performance, Kala Eli Mangallaya, in the traditional Kandyan Dance style in 1990. Since then, he has participated in numerous prestigious dance events such as the National Ballet Festival and Dance Competitions in Sri Lanka.
Udumbara Ratnatunga, daughter of the distinguished dramatist S. Karunaratna and retired music teacher Anula Karunaratna, has also left her mark in the world of dance. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the Aesthetic Institute affiliated with the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka. Additionally, she has obtained diplomas in Bharatha Natyam, North Indian Music (Vocal), and Kathak Dance from Bhathkande Sangeeth Vidyapith Lucknow in India.
In 1996, Udumbara showcased her talent with her debut performance, Arangethram, in Bharatha Natyam. As a versatile artist, she is also proficient in Sri Lankan traditional dance styles and has a diploma in Ballet & Creative Dance from Chalana Dance Academy in Sri Lanka.
Combining their expertise and passion for dance, Rangana & Udumbara Dance Troupe aims to promote and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka through their performances. They offer classes and workshops in various dance styles, including Kandyan Dance, Bharatha Natyam, and Sri Lankan traditional dance, providing a platform for students to learn and grow as professional dancers.
