Randori Dojo, located in Dalkeith, is a Judo club that offers a variety of programmes and activities for all ages and skill levels. With a focus on physical, psychological, social, and emotional development, Randori Dojo provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals to learn and grow.
One of the highlights of Randori Dojo is their Early Years Dojo Activities, known as “dojo dragons. ” These activities are designed for children in the early years, incorporating the fundamental principles of Judo while utilising the equipment available at the dojo, such as balance balls, climbing walls, and assault courses. These activities provide a positive learning experience for children, allowing them to develop important skills within a safe environment.
Judo, a Japanese sport created in 1882 by Professor Jigor Kan, is the core offering at Randori Dojo. The term “judo” translates to “the gentle way,” emphasising the concept of gentleness and harmony. At Randori Dojo, participants learn the art of throwing (Tachiwaza) in a controlled and safe manner, which leads into groundwork (Newaza), where turnovers and hold-downs are practised. At the senior level, participants also learn how to attain submissions.
The dojo, the place where judo training occurs, is more than just a venue for technical learning; it is a place to learn about the way of judo.
For those interested in fitness and strength training, Randori Dojo offers the Dojo Gym. This compact and functional gym features non-impact cardio and strength equipment, catering to the needs of Randori members and their families.
Currently, Randori provides 22 sessions of Judo per week at their Midlothian location. These sessions not only focus on the learning of judo technique but also encompass physical, psychological, emotional, and social well-being. Additionally, Randori Dojo actively participates in the community, providing an Active Schools Programme and organising various Judo-based projects and events.
