Raining Spirit Dojo is an empowering, spiritual, and compassionate martial arts school located in Research, Australia. The primary art taught at the dojo is called “12-Phases Hoshinden Jutaijutsu”, which was officially formed by Sylph Dominic Hawkins in 2013. This modern style of Western Martial Arts builds upon Sylph's original study of “Hoshin Jutsu” and focuses on the physical, mental, and emotional skills that make up the art.
The name “Hoshinden” signifies that it is a variation of the Hoshin ryuha (family line), while the term “Jutaijutsu” suggests that it is a study of special body skills. The art looks at life through a framework of 12 fundamentally different qualities that are expressed in phases and cycles. It aims to understand the benefits and perils of each of these qualities, which are advantageous or disadvantageous in relation to each other.
Sylph Hawkins officially formed the art into a more cohesive structure in 2013, drawing from his study of Hoshin Jutsu and Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. The curriculum is structured around classifying martial art techniques and principles based on cycling and repeating qualities, rather than simple levels of study.
The lineage of Hoshinden Jutaijutsu can be traced back to the original art created in 1981 by Dr. Glenn Morris. The dojo's lineage chart showcases the various arts, lineages, and interpretations that have developed since then. The chart also highlights the current teaching licences that have been granted to students.
At Raining Spirit Dojo, students have access to a range of resources to support their martial arts journey. The dojo offers a newsletter that keeps students up-to-date with events, timetable changes, holidays notices, and special student information.
The dojo also pays homage to Soke Dr. Glenn Morris, the founder of Hoshinroshiryu Jutaijutsu, through a short biography and homage section. Sensei Sylph Dominic's first martial art style and study was Hoshin Ryu, and students have the opportunity to download articles and writings about Hoshinden Jutaijutsu written by Sylph Hawkins Sensei and some black belt practitioners.
Overall, Raining Spirit Dojo provides a welcoming and supportive environment for students to study martial arts and explore the unique qualities of 12-Phases Hoshinden Jutaijutsu.
