Donna Johnson opened Qi Gong & Yoga Ayrshire in Kilmarnock with the intention of sharing the transformative powers of Qi Gong and Dru Yoga, which have greatly improved her own health and well-being. Donna personally practises Qi Gong on a daily basis and is dedicated to continuously expanding her knowledge and skills in this gentle yet powerful form of exercise.
Qi Gong, similar to Tai Chi, focuses on cultivating and circulating energy (or Qi) throughout the body to enhance its natural ability to heal and nurture. Dru Yoga, on the other hand, is a gentler form of yoga that emphasises finding one's still point. It prides itself on its adaptability and inclusiveness, making it accessible to everyone. Yin Yoga, another form offered at the studio, stretches the fascia, ligaments, and muscles, while also promoting a meditative state and stress relief.
Donna's yoga classes primarily focus on Yin Yoga but may incorporate elements of Dru Yoga to help release tight muscles before settling into the Yin practise. Both Qi Gong and Yoga classes emphasise breath, energy, and mindfulness in movement.
Classes are conducted in Prestwick and Irvine, and private or small group sessions are also available in Donna's garden cabin in Symington. With over 20 years of teaching experience in various fields, including sports and line dance, Donna brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her classes.
Donna's qualifications include a National Certificate in Leisure & Sports Leadership, two years of one-to-one tuition of Qi Gong with Donald MacInnes, a Qi Gong Instructor Qualification from Bob Lowey & Qi Gong Teachers Association, a Diploma in Chi Gung (Qi Gong) with distinction, a Teachers Diploma in Dru Yoga (200 hours), and various additional courses and workshops related to Qi Gong and mindfulness.
