The Pontyclun Athletics Club is located in Y Pant Comprehensive School in Pontyclun, Wales. It is a small community club with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome to join, whether they are aspiring Olympians or enthusiastic amateurs.
The club is run by a dedicated team of coaches who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the club. Rowland Williams, also known as “Rowlie,” has been involved with Pontyclun Athletic Club since the 1980s. He is a qualified Level 2 athletics coach and Level 1 official. With over 30 years of coaching experience, Rowlie is passionate about passing on his knowledge to the younger generation.
Geraint Evans, a coach and Level 1 official, has been involved in athletics since he was 11 years old. He competed in athletics throughout his life before transitioning to coaching at the age of 30. Geraint specialises in middle distance running and has developed his coaching skills at various levels, including county, regional, and Welsh level.
Jamie Williams joined the Pontyclun Athletics Club in 2015 and has been an integral part of the team since then. He started as an assistant coach and worked his way up to becoming a fully qualified Level 2 athletics coach and Level 1 official. Jamie is actively involved in the local community and is dedicated to enhancing his coaching skills to specialise in event group management.
Annwen Gammon, the newest addition to the coaching team, brings a fresh perspective to the club. She is a former student of Bryn Celynnog Comprehensive School and a current athlete at Cardiff AAC. Annwen is a qualified Level 1 official and is training to become a Level 2 athletics coach. Her expertise lies in endurance running, and she is eager to share her knowledge and experience with the up-and-coming athletes in the area.
Pontyclun Athletics Club is always looking for volunteers to support the running of the club. Whether it is administrative work, coaching, or any other form of support, volunteers are greatly appreciated. If you are over the age of 16 and can spare a few hours a week, the club would love to hear from you.
