Phnom Doun Penh Martial Arts Centre is a prominent martial arts club located in North Melbourne, Australia. This club was founded by Mr. Ech Neng Tan, who has a deep-rooted passion for martial arts since his childhood. Mr.
Tan's martial arts journey began when he was assigned the daunting task of protecting his mother's food stall in a Cambodian marketplace, where he had to fight to defend and survive.
At the age of 16, Mr. Tan's exceptional skills landed him a spot on the Olympic team. As an adult, he went on to teach Judo and Tae Kwon Do to the Cambodian police force. However, he was forced to flee Cambodia when the Khmer Rouge came to power.
After seeking refuge in a Thai refugee camp, Mr. Tan eventually found a new home in Australia in 1979, with nothing more than the clothes on his back.
Within a week of arriving in Australia, Mr. Tan began teaching martial arts and quickly established his own martial arts club. In 1988, two of his students were even selected for the Australian Olympic Team. Throughout the years, Mr.
Tan has been dedicated to teaching martial arts, whether it be at his own club, through seminars, privately, to family members, or within community groups. His love for teaching has remained steadfast.
With over 49 years of teaching experience and nearly 60 years of training, Mr. Tan possesses a wealth of knowledge that he eagerly shares with his students. His primary focus is on Judo, an art form that he holds dear. Upon joining Phnom Doun Penh Martial Arts Centre, students can expect a nurturing and supportive environment, where they will receive expert guidance and training from Mr.
Tan himself.
