Welcome to Pevlings Farm Riding & Livery Stables, a well-established riding school located in New Zealand. Since 1985, our primary goal has been to create a safe, friendly, and informal environment where individuals of all ages can learn to ride and care for horses and ponies. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider, we cater to a variety of abilities and focus more on leisure riding than competition.
Our riding lessons are conducted in groups or individually, using our carefully selected horses and ponies. Our instructors possess a wealth of knowledge and experience, ensuring that your riding experience is both enjoyable and educational. While we primarily cater to children, there are plenty of opportunities for adults to participate as well. However, please note that we only accommodate lightweight riders and currently have a weight limit of 12 stone (76 kg).
In addition to our riding school, we also offer two stable blocks for DIY liveries. We have a small car park and roadside parking spaces available in front of our barns and stable blocks. Please be aware that we have dogs running loose on the premises. If you would prefer them to be shut away during your visit, kindly inform us in advance.
For your first lesson, don't worry if you don't have the proper riding gear. We provide riding hats that conform to the latest acceptable standards. To start, comfortable jeans or close-fitting trousers are suitable. However, shorts are not appropriate for riding.
You should also wear a jacket or coat, depending on the weather, but make sure it is done up to avoid flapping around while riding. A top with long sleeves is preferable, though a polo or t-shirt can be worn on sunny days. Vest tops are not suitable riding wear. We recommend wearing gloves (avoiding bulky ones) and no trailing scarves.
You'll also need suitable boots or shoes with a smooth sole and a small heel. Wellies may be acceptable for young children, but not for older children, teenagers, and adults. Trainers are not suitable for riding. If required, we have jodhpur boots available for use.
Please remember to bring socks if borrowing a pair of our boots. If you are leading your child's pony, ensure you have suitable footwear to protect your feet in case of accidental trodden-on.
Safety is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, if you have your own riding hat, it must conform to acceptable standards. For the current standards, you can view and download them from our website. It is highly recommended to purchase the hat from a reputable tack shop and have it properly fitted by someone with appropriate BETA training.
Additionally, if you prefer to wear a body protector, we have some available, as it is compulsory for cross country riding. If you decide to buy your own body protector, please refer to our guide for more information.
We are proud to be licenced by South Somerset District Council, with licence holder Mrs. Alison Tytheridge (Licence number 041145). We are also approved by The Association of British Riding Schools and The British Horse Society. Furthermore, we are a Pony Club Linked Centre and hold the RDA Accessibility Mark.
For further inquiries or to make bookings, please contact us directly as we do not provide an online booking facility on our website. We look forward to welcoming you to Pevlings Farm Riding & Livery Stables and sharing our passion for horse riding with you.
