Welcome to Peregrine Club Inc. , a walking club located in the picturesque South Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. Established in 1996, we currently have approximately 85 members who are drawn mostly from the Bass Coast Shire. We are incorporated under the Victorian Associations Incorporation Reform Act 2012 and are proud to be an affiliate member of Bushwalking Victoria.
At Peregrine Club, our purpose is to enjoy, discover, and respect the outdoors in the company of friends. We strive to encourage and support each other in active pursuits. We welcome anyone over the age of 18 to join us, and prospective members are encouraged to participate in up to three activities before applying for membership.
Our activities programme is diverse and caters to a range of interests. We organise a day walk each Tuesday, covering distances of 12–16 kilometres. Additionally, we offer bike rides, base camps (both in bush and caravan parks), occasional pack carries, as well as various social activities. Our day walks mostly take place in the South Gippsland area, but we occasionally travel further for walks that require longer travel times.
We prioritise the enjoyment and safety of our members while also considering our duty of care to the community and environment. We follow the guidelines set out in the Bushwalking Manual provided by Bushwalking Victoria to ensure responsible outdoor practises. You can find a summary of our current Tuesday Walk Programme on our website.
Participants joining our day walks are expected to take responsibility for their own safety and comply with our club policies. It is essential to ensure that the activity is within your capabilities, and if you have any doubts, you can consult with the leader beforehand. We request participants to arrive at the meeting place 10 minutes prior to the designated departure time and remain with the group at all times. If you feel the need to leave the group, it is important to inform the leader.
In instances of a declared “Total Fire Ban” in the Central district or the district where our activity is scheduled, the activity will be cancelled without notice. Carpooling is recommended for transportation whenever practical, and we suggest sharing the operating costs between passengers. On our club activities, members, including visitors, up to the age of 95 years, are covered by personal accident and public liability insurance provided by Bushwalking Victoria. While our First Aider or Activity Leader will call for an ambulance when necessary, we strongly recommend having ambulance cover.
When preparing for a day walk, it is crucial to consider the appropriate clothing and equipment. We recommend wearing flat, comfortable, and preferably waterproof boots or shoes with suitable socks. Depending on the weather and season, it is advisable to carry a hat, gloves, waterproof jacket, over pants, and sunscreen. Jeans are not suitable for bushwalking and are not advised on our walks.
Additionally, a suitable day pack lined with a strong plastic bag to keep the contents dry and a minimum of 1 litre of water are essential. Carrying a personal first aid kit, including triangular and elastic bandages, sterile dressing, and assorted supplies, is also recommended.
