Introducing the Penguin Athletic Track, North West Tasmania's top athletics centre located in Penguin. This state-of-the-art facility is the home of the North West Athletic Club and Burnie Little Athletics and is managed by the Central Coast Council. It offers a wide range of amenities and services for athletes of all ages and abilities.
Originally opened in 2014, the Penguin Athletic Track has undergone extensive renovations to provide athletes and spectators with an exceptional experience. The upgrades include the installation of light towers, an upgraded track surface, a Social Room, a Kiosk, and an upstairs official's area. These improvements ensure that athletes can train and compete in a safe and professional environment.
The key features of the Penguin Athletic Track include an all-weather training and competition venue, with a synthetic running surface that allows athletes to perform at their best. The ground lighting, ranging from 100 lux to 200 lux, ensures that events can take place during day and night. The facility also boasts Long Jump and Triple Jump Pits for field events, as well as a large grassed centre field for various activities.
For spectators, there is a grandstand seating area where they can cheer on their favourite athletes. Additionally, the facility offers a multipurpose Social Room, complete with an adjoining Kiosk and Kitchen, allowing for the hosting of functions and events. The upstairs Official's Room provides a dedicated space for officials to oversee competitions.
The Penguin Athletic Track is not only a hub for local athletics clubs but also a venue for national, state, and local athletic meets. It is also available for school carnivals and training sessions. The facility is conveniently located in Sports Complex Avenue Penguin, which is adjacent to the Penguin Sports Centre, District School, Sports and Services Club, and the newly developed Dial Regional Sports Complex Ovals.
