Park Orchards Community House & Learning Centre

Park Orchards Community House & Learning Centre, located in Park Orchards, Victoria, is a vibrant community-based non-profit organisation dedicated to providing quality community engagement through social, recreational, and learning activities. With a history dating back to 1978, the centre has grown and evolved to become an integral part of the Park Orchards community.

Originally known as Park Orchards Leisure Time Activities (POLTA), the centre began as a leisure time programme organised by the Park Orchards School Council. Starting with just four courses in 1979, POLTA quickly gained popularity and eventually led to the establishment of the Community House in 1983. Since then, the centre has undergone three extensions to accommodate the growing number of programmes and participants.

The main goal of Park Orchards Community House & Learning Centre is to provide an environment where community members can enjoy lifelong learning. The centre recognises the unique character of Park Orchards, often described as a village within suburbia, and aims to maintain and foster this sense of community. Offering a wide range of courses, further education, art/craft workshops, after-school activities, health and fitness programmes, and self-development programmes, the centre strives to cater to the diverse interests and needs of its community members.

In addition to its community engagement and learning activities, Park Orchards Community House & Learning Centre is also a Registered Training Organisation, providing vocational education and training. It offers nationally recognised training and pre-accredited courses that provide learners with valuable skills and a pathway to employment.

Operating under the auspices of the Park Orchards Community House & Learning Centre Incorporated, the organisation is run by dedicated staff and volunteers who are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants. The centre is open Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm during school terms, and is closed on public holidays.
