The Palmerston North Surf Life Saving Club has been faithfully patrolling Himatangi Beach since the early 1950s. Situated in the Manawatu and Rangitikei regions of New Zealand, our club is composed of dedicated members from the surrounding areas.
Our club offers year-round training sessions that take place both in Palmerston North and at the beach. These sessions are essential for honing lifeguarding skills and ensuring preparedness for any emergency situation that may arise. We prioritise the safety of beachgoers and are committed to providing the highest level of lifesaving service.
As a part of Surf Lifesaving New Zealand, our club actively participates in various training and competitions throughout the year. We encourage our members to constantly improve their skills and knowledge in order to deliver the best possible lifeguarding services.
To showcase Himatangi Beach and provide a glimpse into the vibrant atmosphere, we have a webcam available courtesy of Horizons Regional Council. This allows visitors to view the beach conditions in real-time and plan their visits accordingly.
Stay connected with us by following our Facebook page (https://www. Facebook. Com/PalmerstonNorthSurfLifesavingClub). We regularly update it with news, events, and important information.
It's a great way to stay informed about the activities happening in and around the club.
Our club also offers a Junior Surf programme designed to introduce children aged 7 to 13 to the world of surf lifesaving. Through Junior Surf, children can learn valuable skills and safety knowledge while having fun and embracing the spirit of fair play. The programme opens up opportunities for children to develop and improve their personal abilities as well as contribute to the safety of others.
To join our Junior Surf programme, interested individuals can come to the Lido in Palmerston North at 9 am on Sundays during school terms. Alternatively, you can contact Phil Nevill at 021 396 092 for more information on how to get involved.
Beach sessions for Junior Surf typically commence at the end of November and continue every Sunday until the end of March. Participants meet at the clubhouse and engage in dry land training before transitioning to water-based exercises. Rain or shine, these sessions are held to instil essential skills and ensure preparedness for different conditions.
Competitions are an integral part of our Junior Surf programme, offering participants numerous opportunities to engage in friendly competition and improve their surf skills. Local competitions, as well as the highly-anticipated Oceans Nationals, provide a platform for juniors to experience different beaches, meet like-minded individuals from other clubs, and further their development.
