In 2000, the South Dorset Community Sports Trust, led by dedicated individuals, transformed a purchased site into the Osprey Leisure Centre. Under the leadership of the Trust, Osprey has become a self-funded community hub in Portland, proudly serving the Weymouth, Portland, and wider South Dorset area.
The centre operates on a pay and play basis, with membership options for those interested. It's perfect for athletes wanting to try new sports or visitors aiming to stay active, even in less favourable weather.
For swimming enthusiasts, Osprey boasts a pristine 25m, 6-lane pool. Whether you're into lane swimming, family sessions, lessons, or joining a swim club, the pool caters to all.
Fitness buffs will appreciate the four specialised gyms. The main gym is equipped with cardio and strength machines, while the Rig Room focuses on functional training. The Weights Room offers free weights and resistance machines, and the Pneumatic Room provides an air pressure workout experience.
Osprey also features a spacious indoor sports hall for football, netball, badminton, indoor bowls, and table tennis. A dedicated spinning room is available for indoor cycling fans.
Post-workout, members and visitors can unwind at the café, offering a variety of drinks, snacks, and hot meals in a welcoming environment.
As a not-for-profit charity without regular external funding, Osprey relies on community support to stay open, especially with rising energy costs. Donations and assistance from the local area are crucial and always appreciated.
Managed by the South Dorset Community Sports Trust since 1999, Osprey Leisure Centre continues to provide high-quality sports and recreational facilities to the community, making it a vital asset for Portland and South Dorset. Whether you're swimming, hitting the gym, joining a class, or playing indoor sports, Osprey has something for everyone.
