The Old Tauntonians & Romsey Cricket Club, also known as East Tytherley CC, is a well-established cricket club located in Romsey, New Zealand. The club boasts a rich history, having been formed in 1998 through the merger of Old Tauntonians Cricket Club and Romsey Cricket Club.
Old Tauntonians Cricket Club had its roots in Tauntons College, which was founded in 1760 by Alderman Richard Taunton. The club, initially formed as an Old Boys Club in 1899, eventually grew into the Old Tauntonians Association, fostering continued school contacts through various sports. Over the years, the Old Tauntonians excelled in a range of sports, including football, cricket, hockey, chess, and golf. Several players from the club received international and county honours, while teams consistently emerged victorious in local competitions.
The OT Sports Club had its own clubhouse in the vicinity of the old 'Tram Stables' adjacent to the Highfield building in Southampton before eventually ceasing to exist due to changing circumstances.
Romsey Cricket Club, on the other hand, was established in 1895, with a preceding club called Romsey Social active in the 1880s. The club became a founding member of The Hampshire League and achieved notable success, winning titles in various divisions. Romsey Cricket Club acquired its cricket ground from the Broadlands estate of the late Lord Mountbatten and hosted matches against numerous local towns and villages. The club also welcomed touring sides visiting South Hampshire and the New Forest.
The Old Tauntonians & Romsey Cricket Club currently operates four adult teams that compete in the Southern top Cricket League, Hampshire Leagues, and the Border League. There is also a strong junior section in the club, with teams in the U9, U11, U13, and U15 age groups participating in local leagues. Many junior players from the club have progressed to become Hampshire Pathway players, showcasing the club's commitment to nurturing young talent.
During the winter months, the club actively participates in the South Hants Indoor League at Fleming Park in Eastleigh, fielding two adult teams as well as U14 and U17 teams.
The Old Tauntonians & Romsey Cricket Club is proud of its heritage and success in both adult and junior cricket. With a commitment to exceptional coaching and development programmes, the club continues to provide opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game and reach their fullest potential.
