Nova Karate Jutsu

Welcome to Nova Karate Jutsu (NKJ), a non-profit organization based in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Formerly known as Bedford West Shotokan Karate, NKJ was established in September 2016 with a focus on teaching practical application of Karate techniques. The club is led by Andy Allen, a 7th degree black belt, and Jake Crawford, a 6th degree black belt.

At NKJ, the curriculum is designed to develop well-rounded martial artists with an emphasis on practical skills. The club's instructors have a wealth of experience and expertise in traditional Shotokan Karate, but the daily teaching pedagogy incorporates elements of practical karate for self-defence.

The training at NKJ integrates kata (forms), bunkai (kata application), two-person drills, pad work, kumite (sparring), kihon (basics), and grappling (clinch work, throws, groundwork). The club is affiliated with the World Combat Association (WCA) and offers a comprehensive grading syllabus for students of all levels.

Students at NKJ range from beginners to black belts, with a strong focus on providing tailored instruction to each individual's needs. Safety is a top priority during training sessions, while also ensuring a balance between practicality and skill development. Whether you are looking for fitness, self-defence, or self-improvement, NKJ offers a supportive and welcoming environment for all.

The club holds classes at the Bedford Hammonds Plains Community Centre on Innovation Drive in Bedford, NS. Classes are offered throughout the year, with schedules for winter, spring, summer, and fall.
