The North Harbour Bays Athletics Club Inc, located in Auckland, is a renowned athletics club that has been fostering and training top talent while building a vibrant community of athletes. Whether you're a budding star like Connor Bell or simply love being part of a supportive team that encourages you to be the best version of yourself, Bays Athletics is the perfect fit for everyone.
The club prides itself on its commitment to excellence and has consistently won more medals at the National Championships than any other club in New Zealand. Situated at the Millennium Institute of Sport & Health, AUT Millennium Stadium, Bays Athletics offers state-of-the-art facilities that cater to all aspects of athletics.
The club has a rich history that dates back to the 1950s when it operated as a children's-only club named East Coast Bays Club. In 1973, the North Shore Club was formed as a senior-only club. However, it wasn't until 1977 that the merger between the two clubs happened, resulting in the birth of North Harbour Bays Athletics. Over time, the club underwent a name change to North Harbour Bays, and the athletes now compete as Bays Athletics.
To accommodate its growing membership, the club took the initiative to fundraise, build, and maintain the impressive $3 million Sovereign Stadium. However, with the construction of the Millennium Institute of Sport & Health, the club made the generous decision to hand over major assets, including the stadium, to the Institute. This paved the way for the formation of the Sovereign Sports Super Centre, which features top-notch facilities for outdoor and indoor athletics.
The outdoor facilities include an eight-lane Rekortan track, two horizontal jump pits, two high jump fans, two shot competition circles, two pole vault areas, a discus, and hammer competition circle, and two javelin runways. Additionally, the club boasts full electronic timing facilities and floodlighting for night training and competitions. The indoor facilities comprise a six-lane athletics track (60m) with a 20m deceleration zone, a mondo surface with timing and force measuring capability, a horizontal jumping pit with force plate capability, a pole vault dome, and a high jump fan with force plate capability. The club also offers strength and conditioning equipment, video analysis cameras, and timing gates for further training enhancements.
Bays Athletics is driven by its core values. Their vision is to be the most outstanding athletics club in Australasia, catering to a wide range of athletics activities such as track and field, road running, cross country, children's section, senior section, and masters section. The club strives to support members at all levels of personal, recreational, and performance achievements, working in association with AUT Millennium.
With excellent unified administration and management, world-class coaching, top-notch facilities, and a range of training and development programmes, Bays Athletics provides all the necessary resources for its members to excel at their chosen level. Whether it's national or international competitions, the club is committed to providing a pathway for every member to reach their full potential.
