Fascinated by mediaeval knights and their fighting techniques, but our focus goes beyond that. At the New Zealand Schools of European Martial Arts, we strive to explore and understand the evolution of martial arts as a whole throughout European history.
Books are the foundation of our school. We understand the importance of studying and analysing the written records left by the masters of arms. To facilitate this, we have partnered with reputable book suppliers such as Greenhill Books, Paladin-Press, and Freelance Academy. These suppliers offer a wide range of books on military history and European martial arts, providing us with valuable resources for our studies.
In addition to books, we also require appropriate gear for our training. We have carefully selected suppliers who provide quality equipment suitable for European martial arts. The Red Knight and Complete Martial Arts Supplies are our major suppliers for padded garments and typical martial arts gear respectively. We also rely on SwordWorks for fencing and martial arts gear, and Mainland Fencing for fencing masks.
For those interested in historical weaponry and armour, we recommend All Fired Up, a manufacturer, and reseller of mediaeval-era armour based in Wellington. Jolly Roger Nautical, despite the misleading name, offers mediaeval-style helmets. King of Swords specialises in reselling Deepeeka swords, a brand favoured by Roman reenactors. While we may not be familiar with Deepeeka, King of Swords has shown a positive attitude towards addressing any issues with their products.
We have three dedicated training schools across New Zealand, located in Auckland, Upper Hutt, and Wellington. Each school has its own training agenda, tailored to the specific needs and interests of the students in that area. We encourage all potential students to reach out and get in touch with a school near them.
Beyond our physical schools, we are actively engaged in online communities and platforms. We have forums where practitioners can engage in discussions about Historical European Martial Arts, and a Facebook page where we connect with fellow enthusiasts. Our website also features an “About” section, “FAQ” page, and contact information for those seeking more information or wanting to join us.
At the New Zealand Schools of European Martial Arts, we are dedicated to preserving, studying, and sharing the combat techniques and philosophies of historical European martial arts. Join us on this journey of exploration and discovery, and become a part of our vibrant community of martial art enthusiasts.
