National Taekwondo Club, established over five decades ago by Master Hetherington, is officially the UK's longest-serving Taekwondo Club. In 2009, the club was taken over by its current Chief Instructor, Master Mark, and rebranded as Nottingham Taekwondo Club. In 2017, the club underwent another rebranding and became National Taekwondo Club.
At National Taekwondo Club (NTC), students have the privilege of training with British and European champions, as well as students who have been selected to represent Great Britain. As a member of British Taekwondo, NTC follows the guidelines and regulations set by the Governing Body for World Taekwondo in the United Kingdom. British Taekwondo is also a member of the British Olympic Association (BOA).
NTC offers classes for all ages and abilities at all of their locations. From beginners to elite athletes, everyone is welcome to join. Starting from the age of 4, students can explore and develop their skills in Taekwondo. The club believes that Taekwondo offers numerous benefits, such as improved self-esteem, confidence building, fitness, self-discipline, and self-defence.
Taekwondo has been an Olympic Sport since the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Great Britain has seen tremendous success in the sport, with athletes like Jade Jones, Lutalo Muhammad, Bradley Sinden, and Bianca Walkden achieving double Olympic medals and world championships.
Nottingham Taekwondo Club hosts various events and competitions throughout the year to provide opportunities for students to showcase their skills and compete on a national and international level.
NTC encourages individuals to try Taekwondo without any commitment. Free taster lessons are offered at all of their locations, allowing potential students to experience the sport before making a decision. No need to purchase a uniform or any equipment upfront.
Aside from the training aspect, NTC emphasises the importance of building a supportive community. Many students, as well as parents of younger students, socialise regularly outside the club, creating lasting friendships.
