Mountsbay Badminton Club, located at Penwith College in Penzance, is the largest badminton club in West Cornwall. Affiliated with Badminton England and Cornwall County Badminton Association, the club warmly welcomes new members and visitors. With over 30 members in the senior section and around 30 young players in the junior section (ages 7 – 17), Mountsbay Badminton Club offers a vibrant and inclusive community for players of all ages and skill levels.
One of the highlights of the club is its peg system, which allows players of all levels to practise together. This ensures that every player gets the opportunity to improve their skills and enjoy the sport to the fullest. The club provides feather shuttlecocks and membership to Badminton England, which includes insurance coverage and other benefits, all included in the reasonable annual fee.
Mountsbay Badminton Club also participates in the competitive West Cornwall Badminton Leagues. This means that members who are interested have the opportunity to represent the club in matches against similar standard teams in their division. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the game or an experienced player seeking competitive opportunities, Mountsbay Badminton Club offers a supportive environment to play, compete, and enjoy the sport.
The club plays its games in the excellent sports hall of the Porthcurnow building at Penwith College. Easily accessible parking is available under the wind turbine, with a short walk down to the sports hall. The hall features four courts with fantastic wall colours, high ceilings, and quality flooring. There are also changing and shower facilities, as well as chilled water on tap, ensuring a comfortable and convenient experience for players, parents, and spectators.
Club nights are held every term-time Thursday, starting from 5th September 2019 and concluding on 26th March 2020. The club organises three sessions based on age groups. Primary juniors (ages 7-11) play from 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm, secondary juniors (ages 11-17) play from 5:45 pm to 7 pm, and seniors play from 7 pm to 9 pm. Match nights take place on term-time Fridays from 7 pm to 9 pm (9:30 pm for mixed or combis).
Mountsbay Badminton Club uses high-quality Magnum Goose feather shuttles supplied by Yehlex, ensuring an excellent playing experience for all members.
