The Mount Maunganui Yacht Club, located in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, is a vibrant and active club that welcomes new members with open arms. The club recently hosted the inaugural MMYC Three Island race, a thrilling and challenging event that saw participants sail around Karewa, Mayor, and Motiti Islands. Skippers had the freedom to choose the direction in which they sailed, and the unanimous choice was anti-clockwise. Despite the light northwesterly winds, the race was a total blast with fierce competition and strategic manoeuvres by the skippers.

The event saw a close race to Mayor Island, with the lead five boats arriving within 10 minutes of each other. The race took an unexpected turn when the wind dropped out near the bottom of Motiti, causing a park-up. However, the breeze quickly built up again, and the fleet engaged in a drag race to the finish line. Thirsty Work claimed a well-deserved line honours win, while Bondi Tram took home the handicap win.

The event was enjoyed by all, with celebrations continuing late into the night at the Bridge Marina.

In addition to thrilling races and events, the Mount Maunganui Yacht Club also organises a variety of other activities for its members. One of the upcoming events to look forward to is the year-end raft up and Christmas celebration, set to take place on Sunday, 10th December at Motu Hoa. This promises to be another memorable gathering for members to enjoy.
