Morning Walk Group is a sports club located in Melbourne, Australia. Their main objective is to provide members with a boost of melatonin and positive energy to start their working day through a 45-60 minute medium to fast-paced walk. The group meets every weekday morning at 6:30 am and on Saturdays at 7:00 am, if the numbers permit.
The club allows members to nominate their walking days, but it is requested that they notify the group as soon as possible if they cannot walk on their nominated day. Currently, the group consists of 7 members, and the walk is conducted at a medium pace, lasting for 60–75 minutes. Dogs are welcome to join the walks, but prams and wheelchairs are not recommended due to the nature of the walk.
The meeting point for the walks is the Moreland Railway Station on Moreland Rd / Cameron St in Coburg, VIC 3058, offering easy access for commuters. It is highly recommended that interested individuals contact the primary Walk Organiser, Varsha Pilbrow, for further details and enrolment information.
Morning Walk Group is proud to be a part of the National Heart Foundation of Australia, and they emphasise the benefits of walking for heart health. Walking for an average of 30 minutes a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. Regular walking also helps manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol, reduces the risk of developing some cancers, maintains bone density, improves balance and coordination, and reduces the risk of falls and injuries.
For healthcare professionals, Morning Walk Group offers a structured and supportive walking programme that complements their care. The programme can be recommended to patients who want to go for walks alone or in a group. It is designed to help patients meet the national physical activity guidelines and provides motivation and support along the way.
The club encourages members to join their walking community and build connexions within the local community. They also provide a free Personal Walking Plan, which aims to help individuals feel healthier and happier in six weeks. The plan is tailored to individual needs and goals.
Testimonials from members like Maria highlight the positive impact that walking has had on their overall mental and physical health. Maria shares her personal journey of starting with 5,000 steps a day and gradually increasing to 15,000 steps, resulting in significant improvements in her diabetes and blood pressure.
