Diverse cultural background and to have had the opportunity to explore different forms of body movement and mindfulness practises.
Meredith Starck's journey into yoga and chakra dance began in her teenage years when she started practising yoga in her daily life. Growing up between Canada, the Caribbean, and Australia, with her Canadian and Dutch Indonesian parents, she developed an early appreciation for the flavours of diverse cuisines. In the early 1980s, as a young adult, she travelled to Washington D. C.
where she opened a successful catering business called Contemporary Cuisine. Her culinary creations gained popularity among high-profile clients, including corporations, embassies, and even the White House.
During her time in Washington, Meredith also underwent three years of intensive training in a unique natural form of inner exploration and expressive dance known as Synergy. Drawing upon her training in Synergy and her ongoing practise of yoga, Meredith has developed her own distinctive style of body movement. She believes that the natural union of inner exploration and expressive movement is where rhythms and harmony meet, and it is in this realm that we seek balance and health.
Meredith's classes start with slow, rhythmical circular movements that stimulate the energy pathways of the chakra system. As the class progresses, the movements become stronger and more flowing, incorporating elements of dance. She believes that becoming a yoga teacher is just a small part of her journey, and she continuously seeks opportunities to grow and develop her practise.
Meredith's teaching took a radical change when she began her ongoing Scaravelli training under master teachers Diane Long and Paddy McGrath. She also emphasises the importance of practising in nature, and she conducts her classes in various natural spaces. For over a decade, she has taught Dawn Yoga on The Strand Headland, providing a serene practise overlooking the ocean. Additionally, she offers a chair-based yoga class at the Townsville Women's Centre, allowing all women to access a broader holistic practise.
One of Meredith's special places is beneath four grand mango trees, where she conducts her weekly chakra yoga flow classes at Belama House on Magnetic Island. Several times a year, she also facilitates holistic retreats in stunning natural environments.
Meredith feels incredibly fortunate to have been born into a multicultural background and to have had the opportunity to explore various body movement practises. Her goal is to create a lightness of being through her yoga and chakra dance classes, offering different experiences for all movement enthusiasts. Whether you join her for dawn yoga on The Strand or exhilarating chakra dance classes at Belama House, Meredith Starck invites you to discover the transformative power of yoga and movement.
