Mellor Sports Club, located just south of Stockport on the eastern side of the borough, is a well-established sports club that is the proud home to four sports clubs: badminton, cricket, lacrosse, and tennis. The club originated from an informal arrangement between the village's badminton, cricket, and tennis clubs, which began in 1951. The club's early years were marked by the dedication and passion of a local gentleman named Warwick Frost. In 1951, Frost remortgaged his home to raise funds to purchase the club's grounds, which were initially only used for cricket. His unwavering commitment to village sport was truly inspirational. Frost often fundraised for the club, fearlessly boarding local buses with a collection box to gather funds.

As the years went by, Mellor Sports Club underwent numerous improvements and expansions. The lacrosse club, previously playing in various locations throughout Mellor, Marple Bridge, and Marple, finally found their permanent home in 1961. The badminton section initially played in a WW1 drill hall on Longhurst Lane, while the cricketers changed in an old wooden train wagon on the edge of the field. The all-weather tennis courts had a shale surface that required regular sweeping.

Today, Mellor Sports Club stands as one of the most successful and popular sports clubs in the area. It has undergone major rebuilds and various ground improvements over the years, enhancing the facilities and ensuring a high-quality experience for its members.
