Established in 1996, the Melbourne University Women's Football Club (MUWFC) is the oldest female-led football club in Australia. The club is proud to field three teams in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) in 2023 and welcomes players of all skill levels and gender identities.
MUWFC prides itself on its values of unity, integrity, progress, and support. These core principles guide the actions and behaviour of all members both on and off the field. The club encourages its players to lead the way and strives for excellence in all aspects of the game.
The staff at MUWFC are dedicated to the success and development of the club and its players. The executive committee, led by President Maddy Noack, is responsible for overseeing the operations and strategic direction of the club. The coaching staff, headed by Colleen Gwynne as the head coach, is committed to delivering high performance and skills development coaching to help players reach their full potential.
Off the field, the general committee members play essential roles in communication, events, merchandise, sponsorship, and more. They work tirelessly to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all club members.
MUWFC's home ground is the Melbourne University's historic Main Oval, which holds a significant place in Australian football history. Surrounded by the University's colleges and beautiful 19th-century buildings, the University Oval is renowned for its picturesque setting. It is also home to the third-oldest men's Australian football club, Melbourne University, founded in 1859. MUWFC members enjoy discounted access to Melbourne University Sport's fitness and sports centres.
The club has achieved considerable success on the field, with several premierships to their name. In 2021, the senior team was named Minor premiers in the top B Division, although the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reserves team also claimed the Minor premiers title in the premier B Reserves Division in the same year. Previous premiership victories include the Senior team winning in 2018, 2005, and 2003, and the reserves team securing victory in 2005 and 2002.
